The availability of diagnostic ultrasound within the clinic is a significant advantage for patients of Adarsh Nursing Home. Routine scans are conducted on-site, results are reviewed with Dr. Yevale in the same consultation, and any findings requiring further assessment can be acted upon without delay.
Ultrasound & Scanning Services
First Trimester Scan (Dating & Viability Scan)
The first trimester scan is conducted between 6 and 13 weeks of pregnancy. It confirms the viability of the pregnancy, establishes the gestational age and estimated due date, and identifies the number of foetuses. Where indicated, a Nuchal Translucency (NT) scan is also performed at this stage to assess chromosomal risk.
Second Trimester Anomaly Scan (Level II Ultrasound)
Performed between 18 and 22 weeks, the anomaly scan is a detailed structural examination of the foetus. It assesses the brain, spine, heart, kidneys, abdominal wall, limbs, and face for developmental abnormalities. Placental position and amniotic fluid levels are also evaluated.
Third Trimester Growth Scan
Growth scans in the third trimester monitor foetal size, position, and wellbeing as the pregnancy approaches term. Biophysical profile assessments and Doppler studies of foetal and uteroplacental blood flow are conducted where clinically indicated.
Doppler Studies
Doppler ultrasound is used to evaluate blood flow through the umbilical artery and other foetal vessels, providing important information about placental function and foetal wellbeing — particularly in high-risk or growth-restricted pregnancies.
Amniocentesis
Amniocentesis is a diagnostic procedure in which a small sample of amniotic fluid is withdrawn under ultrasound guidance for genetic or chromosomal analysis. It is offered to patients at elevated risk of chromosomal abnormalities, typically between 15 and 20 weeks of pregnancy. The procedure is performed at Adarsh Nursing Home.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Are ultrasound scans available at Adarsh Nursing Home?
A: Yes. Adarsh Nursing Home has an in-house ultrasound clinic. Obstetric scans across all three trimesters, anomaly scans, Doppler studies, and amniocentesis are all available on-site.
Q: What is an anomaly scan and when is it done?
A: An anomaly scan is a detailed ultrasound examination of the foetus, typically performed between 18 and 22 weeks of pregnancy. It assesses the structural development of the baby, including the brain, heart, spine, and limbs.
Q: What is amniocentesis and is it safe?
A: Amniocentesis is a procedure in which a small sample of amniotic fluid is taken for chromosomal or genetic testing. It is performed under ultrasound guidance and carries a small procedural risk, which Dr. Yevale will discuss in full during your consultation. It is typically offered when there is an elevated risk of chromosomal abnormality.
Q: How many ultrasound scans are required during pregnancy?
A: At minimum, three scans are recommended — a first trimester dating scan, a second trimester anomaly scan, and at least one third trimester growth scan. Additional scans may be indicated in high-risk pregnancies or where monitoring of foetal growth or placental function is required.
